Lyrical Ballads features a selection of poems from Wordsworth and Coleridge's 1798 collaboration, which marked the beginning of the English Romantic poetry movement.

In the first episode, we hear Coleridge's "Lewti" and Wordsworth's "The Thorn", while the second episode showcases Coleridge's "The Nightingale" and Wordsworth's "Lucy" poems. In the final episode, we hear Wordsworth's "Lines Written A Few Miles above Tintern Abbey" and Coleridge's pseudo-medieval ballad, "Love".

The poems are expertly read by Julius D'Silva, Mark Meadows, and Peter Gruffyd. This selection was adapted and produced by Emma Harding.

This is a nice collection of poems about nature and man's place within it. Personally, I didn't truly come to appreciate Wordsworth until I hit my 30s. I read Lyrical Ballads and other poems as an undergrad in college, but at the time, he struck me as a touchy feely tree-hugger. I recall reading lines like, "I wandr'd lonely as a cloud," and thinking to myself how fluffy it all sounded. But the other day, I read the following lines: "The world is too much with us, late and soon, getting and spending, we lay waste our powers." Think about just those two lines for awhile. I sure did. I read this in college and didn't think twice or bat an eye, but I now see this poem, and the larger collection in which it is found, contains profound wisdom about our alienation from nature and the self. If you buy this book, my recommendation is to start with "Lines Written a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey," and read maybe four lines a day, in no particular rush, letting the words and imagery seep in slowly like amber down a tree.

Lyrical Ballads (Audible Audio Edition) William Wordsworth Mark Meadows BBC Worldwide Limited Books Reviews

A must have for any writer of history, romance or otherwise!
Good quality. Arrived within a reasonable amount of time.
Great reading for poetry lovers. "Tintern Abbey" is Wordsworth most popular and thorough reading of his romantic period philosophy. Every time I read Wordsworth, I want to spend more time out in nature, dancing with the daffodils, going "nutting" under the walnut trees, and listening to the cuckoo's song of love. "The World is Too Much With Us," and we ought to enjoy God's beauty while we can.
I am not a scholar in any sense of the word, but I feel the need to stress how wonderful this collection is.

"Lyrical Ballads" is often said to be the beginning of the Romantic Movement, a claim which I can neither refute or prove. What I can say for certain, though, is that it is filled with some of the most moving, thought provoking, and beautiful verses ever put on paper. Whether you are looking for something dark, something whimsical, an epic tale, or a sweet romance-there is something in the collection that will appeal to you. Wordsworth and Coleridge are both masters of their craft, a fact that they prove in "Lyrical Ballads"
It's Coleridge and Wordsworth. It's lyrical poetry at its most intellectual peak. It's beautiful. And pretentious. But beautiful.
William Wordsworth is perhaps my favorite poet from this period. I often struggle with poetry, but find him both comprehensible and touching. "We Are Seven" is one of my favorite poems from any period and is included in this fine collection. I was able to download this collection for free on and of course it E presents an unbeatable value. I am very grateful to have come upon this collection. Thank You...
I don't know what is up with the edition I got, but it looks like a word doc got parsed into book format and slapped in a cover. There are no page numbers, practically unformatted, no publishing information, and a random Chinese character inserted into a line. I guess the content is right, but what the hell happened to this book?
